Valentine's Sugar Cookies
These Valentine's Sugar Cookies are made with my favorite simple, no-fail sugar cookie dough. It makes the perfect soft sugar cookies. Topped with a simple icing, these cookies are the perfect cookie to decorate with kiddos.The number of cookies this recipe yields depends on the size cookie cutter you use. Making these for a party? 8 ounces butter room temperature 1 cup sugar 1½ teaspoons vanilla 1 egg 1 teaspoon water 3 cups flour 1½ teaspoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon salt
Cream butter, sugar and vanilla
Add egg and water. Beat until light in color and fluffy.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
Blend dry mixture into creamed mixture.
Divide dough into two pieces. Roll out each piece to ¼ inch thick. Refrigerate 1 - 2 hours (or overnight).
Cut out heart shapes from the chilled dough. Place on a silicone baking mat or parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake at 375°F for 6-8 minutes. Remove before the edges start to turn brown. The cookies will be soft to touch and will firm up as they cool down.
Allow to cool completely before frosting.
