Gingerbread Man Mug Topper

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup shortening
  • cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons molasses
  • teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon ginger
  • ¾ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¼ cups flour

Instructions

  • In a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the shortening and sugars until light and fluffy.
  • Add in the molasses, salt, baking soda and spices.
  • Add the egg and mix until combined.
  • Slowly add in the flour, and mix until a dough forms.
  • On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, roll out the dough to about ⅛ of an inch thick. If it's too sticky, dust with more flour.
  • Refrigerate for 5 -10 minutes, while the oven is preheating to 375°F.
  • Cut out the gingerbread men. Remove excess dough from around the cut shapes. Do not try to lift the gingerbread men.
  • Bake at 375°F for 6-8 minutes. Allow to cool completely before decorating.

Notes

The baking time will vary depending on your oven. Start checking at the 5 minute mark. They will come out slightly soft but harden up once they cool down.
